Cooking for Scots fortnight in P1

This last fortnight, the Primary 1’s have been learning about all things Scottish – the language, clothing, Robert Burns, Scottish landmarks, stories, poetry and songs and of course, the food!

With Mrs Tekkatte, the P1s cooked vegetarian haggis and tatties. They learned about all the ingredients that go into veggie haggis and touched and smelt them – some P1s loved the smell of all the spices, others not so much! They also then made shortbread with Mrs Tekkatte, which most of them loved (of course). We learned about where all the ingredients come from – so ask us “Where does flour/sugar come from?” or “how is butter made?”

In our Minibeast groups we also made cranachan – it took a lot of muscle to whip the cream , but we got there eventually!

A huge thanks to all the parents who have come in and helped us cook and bake over the last 2 weeks – you really did all the hard work!
