Happy New Year!

Staffing update

Mrs Dalziel is on a long term absence. We wish her well.

Farewell to Mrs Waddell, DHT who finishes at Cramond on Friday 20th January to take up Headteacher post in Fife. Best wishes and huge thanks from us all. Mrs McKay PT will be out of class until Easter until the new DHT starts. Interviews for this post take place over coming few weeks.  Until Easter, we are a smaller SLT team.

Please contact myself, Mrs McKay PT or Ms Cessford PT.

For non-learning and teaching matters, please contact Mrs Adam, our Business Manager or our Admin team;  Mrs Pollock and Mrs Taylor.

Mrs Hansen is reducing a day and won’t be working a Monday. She will focus her teaching in P3 and teach 2F on a Wednesday for Mrs Forsyth who does not work on a Wednesday.

Ms Lindsay takes up post from end of January, teaching P6S Monday, 6C on Wednesday and HWB for the rest of the week as temporary replacement for Mrs McKay.

Our Place update

Regrettably part of Our Place is still cordoned off as we await contractors to make repairs. Before Christmas, our school daily checks revealed that further investigation and subsequent remediation works were required in the multi-play ship. It is disappointing for the children that this area is out of use. Further updates will be provided as I have them.

Icy weather. We have been fortunate to have a fairly mild winter this far. However, in extreme low temperatures we do close off areas of our place as the impact absorbing surfaces cease to be effective when frozen and ice/rain poses additional slip hazards. Please ensure pupils (and parents) follow our red flag system to stay safe out with the school day. Where ice or heavy rain render surfaces excessively slippery, we do keep people off rocks and raised areas.

A reminder about safe play on and near our slide. Slide down only. No climbing up slide or at side of slide. Thank you for your support and supervision outwith the school day.

Great work continues by our Merry Band of gardening volunteers. Plenty jobs to do in helping with our extensive grounds. Please get in touch if you want to be part of our gardening gang from nursery to P7!

Maths at Cramond

I was delighted to welcome 150 delegates from schools across Edinburgh to join the Cramond staff on the January in-service day. Our learning focus was Big Maths which is a learning and teaching approach we are undertaking. Big Maths along with Numicon, Sumdog and SEAL (stages early arithmetic learning) will continue to transform learning in maths at Cramond.

Numicon is a creative maths resource particularly helpful in its visual / hands-on nature to help number make sense for all learners. I will be offering a parent curriculum workshop on these approaches in the summer term. Details to follow. The school and CPSC fundraising is focussed on maths learning and Numicon. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Please see school website for more details.

CPSC We are currently revising our approach and organisation of our school Parent Council. We have a current vacancy for Parent Council Chair and are looking at this being a shared role. The role of the parent council cannot be underestimated in helping take the school forward. The chair person is an invaluable link between myself and parent body. CPSC and I are discussing the two roles the parent council plays. Fundraising/social and strategic learning. You may have particular skills or interests in either of these categories. Being involved does not require availability during school day or endless evening meetings. Further information is coming soon directly from the CPSC along with an opportunity for you to share your opinions. The next CPSC meeting is on 31st January – all are welcome to join us.

I do value the input and support of parent body at Cramond and urge you to consider how you could be involved. It’s positive a school parent partnership which makes us the thriving school we are and meet our shared future aspirations. Sincere thanks to the parents currently and previously active on CPSC – I couldn’t do without you!!
