We have had our flu immunisations this week from the NHS staff visiting schools. It’s that time of year again and no doubt we will soon be buying tissues by the truckload! We are focussing on teaching the children about handwashing and preventing the spread of germs to stay healthy. If we have any parents out there who may be able to contibute to this, by coming in and speaking to the children, or helping out with small groups practising handwashing skills, or even to read stories about staying healthy and clean, as always, we urge you to get in touch.
Primary 6 children have also stared coming in to nursery to get to know the children in small groups. The aim of this is for the children to get to know each other and to develop literacy skills all round. To do this the P6 children are reading stories to the nursery children and spending a little time having a chat. This seems to be going down well with older and younger pupils alike. By the time we are in term 4 the pre school children will know thier buddies really well and this will be a great support as they prepare to go into Primary 1, and their buddies will be with them to help with the transition.
Next week there will be lots of things going on to celebrate the opening of our new hall. Only indoor shoes may be worn in the new hall. In nursery we felt that changing shoes may be a little challenge for some of our children. We plan on having a focus in term 3 to help with this. At the same time we plan to introduce changing into gym kit for our gym lessons so that the children are beginning to prepare for going to Primary 1.
Staff will be double and triple checking that we know all we need to know about our little ones. That means going through all of our paperwork to make sure we have you contact details and any information you want us to know. It’s always good to do this a few times throughout the year to make sure we are getting things right. If any of your contact details change please let us know as soon as you can.
