Safeguarding & Child Protection at Cramond

At Cramond Primary and Nursery, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We are committed to providing a safe, caring and supportive environment where all children can flourish.

What do we mean by safeguarding?

Safeguarding is a broad term that includes everything we do to keep children safe, promote their wellbeing, and uphold their rights. It covers:

  • Child Protection – protecting children from harm, abuse or neglect.
  • Wellbeing – ensuring children are safe, healthy, active, nurtured, achieving, respected, responsible and included (the SHANARRI wellbeing indicators).
  • Children’s Rights – recognising and promoting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), including the right to be safe, cared for, and heard.
  • Positive Culture – tackling bullying, discrimination, hate crime or intolerance, and ensuring equity and inclusion for all

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility – staff, parents, carers, and the wider community.

Child Protection at Cramond

Child protection is part of Scotland’s Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) approach. If a child may be at risk of harm, our staff act quickly to protect them. At Cramond, our Child Protection Coordinators are:

  • Helen Donaldson (Headteacher)
  • Anna Balatoni (Depute Headteacher)
  • Yasmeen Naeem (Acting Depute Headteacher)

If you have a concern about your child or any other child, please contact school directly or social care direct. In an emergency, dial 999.

Working Together

We follow City of Edinburgh Council and Edinburgh & Lothians Multi-Agency Child Protection Procedures to ensure clear, consistent support for children and families. Our staff are trained annually in safeguarding and child protection.

We believe in open and honest communication with parents and carers. In most cases, families will be fully involved in decision-making. Where there is evidence that a child is at risk of significant harm, we may need to share information with statutory services such as Social Work or Police without prior consent.
